Read a book!

298x232-reading_a_book-298x232_readingabookpage27About a month ago, my wife said that she wanted to start reading books. I said, “Why, you can read everything on the internet?” While that statement may be true, I cannot always take the Internets with me. My Sidekick LX’s browser and connection is like a vacuum; it really sucks. I spend too much time on the computer anyways, so picking up a book would definitely break that habit, or lessen it for that matter.

Reading leads to improved memory and a better vocabulary. TheMemoryPage.net states

Most of us have a really good memory, but we just don’t have practice in using it efficiently.

It’s true. One of my college professors said that we’re all good at everything we do. It just so happens that there are people who are better at certain things than you are. I agree whole-heartedly, so I decided to make a list a books to start off with:

  • How to Win Friends and Influence People
  • Gears of War: Aspho Fields
  • Teach Yourself CSS in 10 Minutes

I’ve even signed up for a word of the day from dictionary.com. Today’s word of the day:

obscure \uhb-SKYOOR\, adjective:
1. not clearly expressed; hard to understand

verb:
1. to hide from view; dim, darken

adjective:
1. not well known; not prominent
2. dark, dim, murky

Try it out & improve your memory. Read a book!

Button mashing FTW!

RyuSo after playing Portal: Still Alive with the wifey, she wanted to try another game: Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. I’ve grown up playing this game for quite some time and even though I’m not that great, my wife kicked my ass last night. One rule though: NO SPECIAL MOVES aka button mashing only. It’s weird to just button mash only. Either way it was fun, especially getting your ass handed to you by someone as sexy as her. ;)

BTW Xbox Live friends, if I am playing a Puzzle Fighter HD, Portal: Still Alive or SSF2THDR (whatever it is), the wife and I are playing. I don’t mean to ignore all of your game invites. I want to spend some time with the wifey. After all, my wife and video games are the two things I love to ‘play’ with the most. One key motto: Happy Wife = Happy Life.

Special shoutouts to GamertagRadio.com and Epic Games for their GOW2 Community Play Date last night. Sorry I was unable to join in on the fun. When I finished co-op’n with the wifey, the community night was over. ::sadface:: It’s okay, I’ll get in next time. Luckily fourzerotwo sent a game invite for Zombie Mode. Now that shit is hilarious when half the team has played it before. People wandering around while zombies are behind their backs is just good old fun!

We then hit up some multiplayer on World at War, then onto some COD4 action. At first it was some normal private hardcore team deathmatches, then pistols/knives/flashbangs only, then knives only, then shotguns only, then a new game someone suggested: Michael Myers. It’s one versus everyone else. The thing is only “Michael Myers” wields the knife while everyone has to run away and not shoot or attack. All in all, we had a BLAST. Good times from the twitter folk on Live. ;)

picture-1I got a score of “402″ against “fourzerotwo”. ;)

tired and somewhat famous?

dodgeball2Today was the start of my New Year’s Resolution: Getting back in shape. I just got back from a 3-mile run and a 3-mile bike ride. I was aiming for a 6-mile run but after not running for quite some time, I opted for a different solution. It’s like eating with my eyes. I see all the food I want to eat, but my body can’t handle it. I am freakin’ tired.

Robert Bowling, community manager at Infinity Ward aka fourzerotwo, just posted some interesting COD4 stats to put into perspective. What I couldn’t believe is that my gamertag/name was on a picture on his blog. I honestly played COD4 from Nov 2007 until Sept 2008. No other game has dazzled me like this one. I think it must be because I loved Counter-Strike so much. BTW Rob, thanks for the add! Read all about it here and follow him on twitter here.

So if you’ve beat Airplane (and the game completely) on Veteran difficulty, then congratulations. You’re in a very elite club. Considering less than 3% of players have been able to do it.

Beat COD4 w/ all 1000 GS points. Check.
Be on TV. Check.
Be on the internets. Check.
Be in a movie. Shit!

Time to work on my new gaming site. If you’re in the Orange County/Los Angeles area, I would love your input. Hit me up on twitter here. Any gamers in general, I would love to network with you. Hit me up!

Guess who’s back? Back again!

eminem300Sorry for the lack of posts, I was on vacation within my perma-vacation. Now I am back!

It’s Apocalypse week on the H. According to the History Channel’s Nostradamus series, something world-changing will happen on December 21, 2012. The second coming of Jesus Christ? Nostradamus’ quatrains are filled with prophecies that have become true, while some have yet to come. He predicted that his King would die in a jousting match. Four years later, it happened; to the T. Pope Benedict XVI is supposedly the second to last Pope in our lifetime. Peter the Roman is the last. Crazy huh? Famous Nostradamus quatrains here.

While we might only have 3 years left to live, I am going to try to keep my New Year’s resolution… starting tomorrow. My wife gave me a watch for Christmas and she said that I could get the one I wanted. She only bought me one so I could open something on Christmas Day. I am going to SCP to find the watch. If not, it’ll have to be Amazon.

The Xbox is back, but my usual gaming rituals aren’t. Even though I am home all day, I don’t touch the Xbox. I think it’s because all of my friends are on at night. LIVE is more fun when you play with people you know, you know? You can find me roaming around Kotaku, CAG, Craigslist, Monster, Slickdeals and Twitter (less twitter nowadays). Need a deal? Hit me up! I can probably find one for you.

BTW, GOW2 is having a Title Update to fix some major issues. Thanks @SixOkay for the link.

P.S. - If you want a golden hammerburst and have some extra MS points, hit me up. I just need points for the Combustible Map Pack.

New Year’s Resolution

When you get laid off, it takes a serious toll on you. And it’s hard to get back into the flow of things. Imagine your daily schedule and something/someone comes along and fucks it all up. Yeah it’s like that, but 10 times worse. I am the protagonist and the economy is the antagonist in this chapter of my life.
